What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy assesses the muscles, joint and neurological control of the body. If focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of musculoskeletal conditions and can help to:

  • Reduce acute and chronic pain
  • Optimise sports performance
  • Reduce injury risk

Pain is often the tip of the iceberg; osteopathy helps to identify the cause of your pain and the maintaining factors which are prolonging healing. This is normally due to asymmetric movement patterns, poor posture or strength.

Osteopathy for acute and chronic pain relief

Osteopathy is a hands on treatment which helps to relieve your pain and give you strategies to prevent it coming back. Techniques include massage, mobilisation, manipulation, stretching, exercise advice, medical acupuncture and kinesio-taping. These help to reduce inflammation, alleviate tissue tension and joint stiffness and improve blood flow. This is an effectively method of reducing your symptoms and enabling you to carry on with your normal day.

People of all ages (babies to elderly and everything in between) are able to see an osteopath and no doctor's referral is needed. Call us direct for last minute appointments.

Osteopathy for Performance

Osteopathy assesses the whole body and can identify areas of tension, stiffness, asymmetry and weakness. These areas will always be limiting factors in how you ride, whether that's pain management, performance or enjoyment. If your hip is stiff when lying flat on a coach, then it will definitely influence how well you ride, by inhibiting your ability to relax that leg and move effectively through your pelvis and lower back.

Many riders after their treatment are amazed at how loose, light and tall they feel. Our body starts to ignore little compensations and asymmetries but that does not mean they're not there and are not influencing every movement. When you and your horse are treated you really start to notice the difference!

Kinesio-taping is another effective method we use to show a rider how to hold their shoulders in a correct posture and how this positively affects their riding. This is a supportive tape which doesn't limit range of motion or flexibility. Call or email if you would like more information.
